Leeds United ready double transfer for Fofana and Abdelli as ‘hottest issue’ emerges

Leeds United are already shopping around Europe this summer.

The Whites are set to enter the market for reinforcements in several positions as Daniel Farke seeks to bolster his squad.

The Elland Road outfit will face a tough battle to survive as the last six teams to be promoted from the Championship have come straight back down.

Therefore, they need to add as much quality as they can in the transfer market to have any chance of bucking that trend.

Leeds set for Fofana and Abdelli swoop

The return to the Premier League is exciting for Farke’s side but they need to ensure that their squad is up to scratch.

A report from Ouest France (6 June) claims that the Whites have joined the race for Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana and are also monitoring midfield captain Hamid Abdelli.

It states that the former is the “hottest issue” for the French outfit in the window with Newcastle also pursuing his services.

Meanwhile, the latter has interest from the LS11 club but the approaches are less concrete than the ones for his teammate.

Farke needs quality additions at Leeds this summer

The 49ers must back Farke properly this summer, otherwise his side will fall right back down to the second tier, and the process will be back to square one.

If they get it right and reinforce the squad sufficiently, there is every chance that they can stay up and establish themselves as a top-flight club long-term.

Stats (Ligue 1) Fofana
Matches 33
Clean sheets 7
Goals conceded 51
Minutes played 2,970
Fofana’s stats this season.

Fofana would be a terrific signing, with great value for money, considering he would reportedly cost just £8.4million with one year left on his contract.

The Ivorian kept seven clean sheets in 33 matches and was a key reason why Les Scoistes survived in Ligue 1 and could have the same impact in Yorkshire as Illan Meslier’s replacement.

Abdelli would add another option in the number 10 role to potentially replace Brenden Aaronson, and can also play on the right flank if necessary.

He notched six goals and one assist in 32 matches, which is not a particularly bad return for a struggling side that are in a relegation battle.
