Nottingham Forest Ace Targeted by Club Behind £26m City Ground Raid – Is Another Big Move on the Cards?

Nottingham Forest are going to be going in search of a number of players during the summer window, and in turn, there could be some others who depart the City Ground.

The Reds won’t want to see too many players leave their squad with the UEFA Conference League on the horizon, but if better quality is to be added, it’s vital that there is room for new arrivals.

Three players are coming to Forest from Brazil. Igor Jesus is coming in attack, with left-back Cuiabano and central defender Jair Cunha also coming to the Reds after the Club World Cup.

It would appear as though some players could already be preparing to leave the club this summer and given that the season is now consigned to the history books, rumours are already starting to circulate regarding certain players.

Lyon interested in Nottingham Forest star Danilo

This wasn’t an anticipated link, but according to UoL, the Ligue 1 outfit are apparently keen to test the water with Forest over a £20 million bid for Brazilian midfielder Danilo this summer.

The 2024/25 season got off to the worst possible start for the midfielder. Danilo broke his ankle just 10 minutes into the new campaign against Bournemouth and didn’t return to action until January, when the FA Cup campaign got underway.

As a result, fitness became a struggle for Danilo. Other players had overtaken him in the pecking order and that largely saw the player feature in cameo roles from the bench instead of starting games.

Danilo is only 24, however, and letting him go might prove a bit risky. The Reds will be firing on four fronts next season, with Europe and the Premier League being the priority over the two domestic cup competitions.

Forest could move to strengthen other areas if Danilo leaves

Danilo signed for Forest from Palmeiras for £16 million in January 2023, and during his first six months at the club, he helped the Reds retain their Premier League status with some fine form.

Last season was also pretty decent for the midfielder, but ultimately, he has suffered with a bit of an identity crisis in the current Forest team, with the player arguably struggling to prove to supporters exactly what sort of midfielder he is.

With Nicolas Dominguez, Ibrahim Sangare, Ryan Yates and Elliot Anderson at the club, perhaps there is an argument for Forest to offload Danilo and sign a different type of midfielder who can complement the others a bit more.

Danilo has been a popular member of the dressing room at Forest. However, is the price is right and profit can be posted on the PSR spreadsheet, this might be a sale that the club can get behind.

John Textor, the owner of Lyon, has helped Forest out before. Last summer, he signed Moussa Niakhate for £26 million, allowing the Reds to rake in significant profit and once again bolster the PSR matters in the boardroom.
