Bayern Munich Complete Second Summer Signing with Rennes Midfielder for €32 Million
Munich, June 1, 2025 — Bayern Munich have completed their second signing of the summer transfer window, confirming the arrival of highly-rated Ligue 1 midfielder Baptiste Santamaria from Stade Rennais for a reported fee of €32 million.
The 29-year-old Frenchman, known for his tactical intelligence, tireless work rate, and ability to control the tempo of a game, adds depth and experience to Bayern’s midfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Santamaria, who made 34 appearances for Rennes last season, was seen as a key figure in their impressive domestic campaign. His move to the Bundesliga giants marks a significant step forward in his career, and he is expected to compete for a starting spot alongside the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
“Joining Bayern is a dream come true,” Santamaria said during his unveiling at the Allianz Arena. “I’m excited to be part of a team with such a rich history and ambitious future.”
The move comes just days after Bayern announced their first summer signing, bringing in Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. With the addition of Santamaria, new manager Vincent Kompany appears to be wasting no time reshaping the squad to suit his tactical vision.
Club sporting director Max Eberl praised the acquisition: “Baptiste brings the kind of balance and professionalism we value at Bayern. He will be an important player for us on and off the pitch.”
Bayern are expected to make further moves in the market as they prepare for a title challenge both domestically and in Europe next season.
