Transfer News: Sunderland Seal €3M Deal for Galatasaray Defender in First Summer Signing
Sunderland have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window, landing Galatasaray defender Davis Jibson in a deal worth €3 million.
The 21-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Black Cats, joining from the Turkish giants after both clubs reached a full agreement earlier this week. The move marks a strong statement of intent as Sunderland prepare for the 2025/26 Championship season.
Jibson, a product of Galatasaray’s academy, made his breakthrough in the Turkish top flight and gained valuable experience in both domestic and European competition. Regarded as a composed, ball-playing centre-back with strong physical attributes, Jibson is expected to play a key role in Sunderland’s defensive setup moving forward.
Speaking on the signing, Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said:
> “Davis is an exciting addition for us — young, talented, and ambitious. We’re investing in his potential and believe he can grow significantly at Sunderland. He’s already gained experience at a high level, and we’re confident he will adapt quickly to the demands of the Championship.
Jibson will link up with his new teammates for pre-season later this month and is in line to feature in the club’s upcoming summer friendlies.
More additions are expected as Sunderland continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
