More than £19m earmarked for Sheffield Parkwood Springs plans
The third round of the government’s levelling up fund has granted around £20 million to Sheffield City Council for their ambitious new
plans for a former abandoned site.
Parkwood Springs, a natural “wild” area in the city centre, has been underutilised for more than a decade. Sheffield City Council has
consequently put forth fresh ideas to establish a country park for the benefit of the nearby population.
Since Sheffield has previously been turned down for money, the news has been warmly received. The council will now get £19,389,336 in
total.
“Sheffield is a city on the up and we’re looking forward to starting work on an exciting £19m transformative regeneration to create a
country park at Parkwood Springs,” stated Cllr. Ben Miskell, chair of the transport, regeneration, and climate committee.
As a result of these plans, developers will be able to access the land, which was previously a barrier to their ambitions to redevelop the
former Ski Village.

All people will have better access to Parkwood Springs as a result of the initiative, with an emphasis on boosting public transport and
active travel.
Additionally, the site of the former ski slope will be ready to be developed into a regional recreation area with newly constructed and
renovated mountain bike routes and walking paths.
“This project has the potential to revitalise the landscape and restore it to the Sheffield community,” Cllr. Miskell stated. “Parkwood
Springs will be a great place for locals and guests of all ages and abilities to enjoy once all the work is finished, and I’m really looking
forward to seeing it start to take shape.”
“The people of Sheffield will be able to see the area come to life once again once all those essential elements are completed, but there is
still work to be done before the first spade can be put in the ground, including road and infrastructure planning,” Cllr. Miskell continued.
