Aberdeen fan arrested after ‘throwing burning pyrotechnic’ at Eintracht Frankfurt fans
The event was captured on CCTV, according to a post made by Frankfurt Police on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Aberdeen supporters travelled to Germany to play Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa Conference League, although they
lost 2-1. One of the Aberdeen supporters was arrested for reportedly hurling a “burning pyrotechnic object” at opposing supporters.
Frankfurt Police said the incident was captured on CCTV and used to identify the suspected culprit in a post on X, formerly known as
Twitter.
One of the away fans tossed a burning pyrotechnic object into the nearby home fan block during the first half of the match, according to
the translated Polizei Frankfurt tweet.
The Dons were appearing in their first European group stage action for 16 years.
Omar Marmoush converted a penalty within just 11 minutes, firing the Bundesliga side into the lead.
Dante Polvara fired in a clinical equaliser shortly after for the Pittodrie side before half-time.
In the end, Eintracht Frankfurt won all three points on match day one of Group G when Robin Koch headed past Kelle Roos with an hour
remaining, despite Aberdeen’s energy and desire to be more than a match for their German opponents.
The club is extremely unhappy by the behaviour of a small number of supporters during tonight’s game, which could damage Aberdeen
FC’s good name and the reputation of the great majority of Dons supporters, according to a statement released by Aberdeen FC.
“The club will fully cooperate with UEFA and the relevant authorities during the course of any investigations.”
