‘Absolutely furious’: Jamie Carragher spots Nikola Milenkovic raging at Nottingham Forest player

Nottingham Forest were beaten by Everton as the club’s quest for Champions League football took a turn for the worse in the City Ground sunshine.

The Reds had been frustrated all afternoon by Everton. They’ve found a new lease of life under David Moyes and when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time, it was no more than they deserved.

Forest were praised by Robbie Earle afterwards, but this wasn’t a game when the Reds deserved any credit. However, all is not lost, and for now, the Reds remain in third place, with Newcastle set to overtake Forest if they win their game in hand on Wednesday.

Nuno Espirito Santo goes back to his former club Tottenham next time around. With Forest playing on Monday after the other 18 clubs have played their matches, it’s going to be an anxious wait to see which position in the table Forest occupies ahead of the trip to North London.

Jamie Carragher spots what made Nikola Milenkovic furious vs Everton

When Forest got themselves a corner in the 93rd minute, naturally, the Reds piled men forward to try and create one final chance to win the game on home soil. However, it backfired drastically.

Although the Reds were right to try and win the game, it was imperative they didn’t lose and ultimately, became outnumbered on the counter-attack when Dwight McNeil robbed Murillo of possession on halfway.

Milenkovic was one of the men who had gone forward. He’s scored a number of important goals so far this season, but after making the long trip to the opposition penalty area, he was left frustrated after Alex Moreno chose to go short to Murillo rather than smack it into the box where the Forest players waited.

Carragher said on Monday Night Football: “This is one set piece, these three players look straight over at the bench, and we can see Nuno pointing to that space that’s susceptible to the counter-attack. He knows it’s coming, he knows what’s at stake.

“The centre-back who you want to try and get your head on it, Milenkovic, he’s been outstanding this season. We talk about the tension and the frustration in the stadium, keep an eye on him when it doesn’t come into the box, look at his arms, look at him, he’s absolutely furious.”

Milenkovic stats vs Everton

It’s rare that Milenkovic has had a bad game this season. The big Serbian has been superb since checking in on Trentside and at £12 million, it’s a mystery just how Forest managed to sign him in the first place.

Milenkovic will be desperate to play in Europe again and he won’t want to let the 2024/25 campaign peter out into disappointment after Forest have put themselves into a strong position.

It was a frustrating day for everyone on Saturday but Forest haven’t become a bad team overnight, with this one in need of parking and being written off as a bad day at the office.

Milenkovic is a nod towards the club’s recruitment team and it would be absolutely no surprise to see the Serbian captain the Reds as he progresses at the football club.
