Breaking News:Chiefs Reportedly Expect To Lose Key Defender This Offseason

The Kansas City Chiefs rallied behind their defense to reach the Super Bowl.

Steve Spagnuolo built a championship-caliber defense and deserves all of the credit for it.

Nonetheless, he had some great players to build around, namely L’Jarius Sneed.

That’s why it’s so awful that the team may be without the outstanding cornerback following free agency.

According to Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Chiefs are prepared for life beyond Sneed (via Dov Kleiman).

The team gave Sneed and his camp permission to pursue a trade.

The Chiefs would rather receive excellent compensation for his services now than wait for a compensatory selection pick in 2025.

They also advised him that if they could not reach an agreement on a long-term contract, he would be assigned to the franchise tag.

The Chiefs could still trade him after tagging him, but he would have to sign the tag, so he would basically have to agree to a trade with whichever team wanted him first.

Sneed is one of the top cornerbacks in the league, and losing him might be devastating to their defense.

As of today, it is unlikely that both parties will be able to agree on terms for an extension.

Notably, Spagnuolo may lose more than just one major name now, as Chris Jones is a free agent again, and the two have a history of contentious discussions.
