Championship relegation predictor and Stoke City’s next four games compared to rivals

Mark Robins is not taking anything for granted but the bookies have redrawn their odds after Stoke City pulled off a huge win at Cardiff City at the bottom of the Championship.

A late goal in South Wales saw Stoke go from 7/2 to 11/1 in the relegation betting with four games remaining. Plymouth Argyle remain 1/10 clear favourites for the drop despite a 2-1 home win over promotion-chasing Sheffield United that pulls them level on points with second-bottom Luton Town.

Luton are 1/6 second favourites to go down after a home defeat to Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff are 1/2 third favourites. Derby County are 13/8 after a draw away at Portsmouth, who are joint 10/1 fifth favourites with Hull City to be heading to League One. Hull are in action against Coventry at home this evening.

Stoke have won two and drawn two since returning after the international break – and are kicking themselves that they didn’t win the two draws as well – and they have Sheffield Wednesday at home next on Friday (3pm).

Robins said: “What we’ve got to do is try to stay in the moment and make sure that we’re not thinking of other things that may or may not happen. We’re in control of it so let’s remain in control of it, let’s make sure that we keep putting those performances in for our supporters and let’s finish the job off.”

Nobody is quite sure how many points it will take to be safe and it could still be as high as 54, even though teams in the thick of it still have to play each other. Key games coming up include:

Derby v Luton (Friday, April 18)

Oxford v Cardiff (Monday, April 21)

Hull v Derby (Saturday, April 26)

Derby v Stoke (Saturday, May 3)

Portsmouth v Hull (Saturday, May 3)
