‘On the right track’: Manager admits £4m man is likely to sign for Rangers today

Franck Haise, the coach of RC Lens, believes that Oscar Cortes’ move to Rangers is “on the right track,

” as the Scottish Premiership giants are gaining ground on the £4 million striker.

A deal to sign Fluminense left-back Jefte fell through on the penultimate day of the winter transfer window because of his

season-long loan at APOEL Nicosia, which prevented Philippe Clement from joining the team.

However, Rangers don’t seem to have the same issues as they try to get another highly-rated 20-year-old

over the finish line before tonight’s play ends.

According to The National, Oscar Cortes was in Glasgow on Wednesday.

It is anticipated that Rangers will sign the international player from Colombia prior to the deadline,

bringing Cortes in on loan only half a year after he left Millionaires for French territory.

Lens coach Franck Haise, meanwhile, confirms that talks are heading in the right direction,

Cortes seemingly keen on a move to Scotland after turning his nose up at a number of second-tier teams.

“At the start of the month, we had offers from of Ligue 2 clubs,” Haise tells La Voix du Nord.

“But Oscar and his entourage were not open to a departure.

“(With Rangers) there are still a few details to be resolved. But we are on the right track.”

Cortes, a forward with a strong right foot, could take over in Abdallah Sima’s absence due to injury.

The best scorer for Rangers this season from open play, the Senegal international, will miss “long-term” action

because of an injury he sustained during the African Cup of Nations, Clement says.

Cortes scored six goals and set up three more in his final 19 appearances for Millionaires.

He has found the net in Ligue 1 too, despite only playing a handful of games in Lens colours.

“Cortes was one of the heroes of the under-20 side, and he did well in the Libertadores at the start of the year,

” South American expert Tim Vickery tells talkSPORT of a player who won the Bronze Ball award,

which is given to the third-best player in the tournament, at the recent U20 FIFA World Cup after scoring four goals.

Although he is a winger, he can play any position along the front line. He has some pace, is adept with the ball,

and has the ability to score.

“He did well at under-20 level and then he went to France, and it doesn’t seem to have worked out.

They are giving up on him very, very early.

“I like him. (But) I would be a little perturbed by Lens seeming to give up on him so early.”
