Derby County ‘discuss’ future of loan ace, John Eustace delivers verdict
Derby County boss John Eustace has said they will ‘discuss’ the future of loan ace Jerry Yates at the end of the season.
Derby County are back in action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Burnley. DCFC lost 1-0 away at Swansea City last time out.
Yates wasn’t able to play against his parent club and watched on as the Rams slumped to a narrow defeat. They are sat in 21st place in the Championship table with six fixtures left to play this season and they are only above the drop zone on goal difference above Cardiff City.
Eustace has shared this update regarding his striker’s situation, as per a report by DerbyshireLive: “I think Jerry has done very well – that is something we will discuss at the end of the year.”
He added: “Jerry’s been great. He scored on Wednesday (against Preston) but (Kayden) Jackson came in (against Swansea City) and did well, he worked his socks off as the rest of the group did.”
Derby County latest update regarding Jerry Yates
Derby County signed Yates on loan from Swansea City last summer.
The Rams landed the attacker to boost their options going forward following their promotion from League One under former manager Paul Warne.
He has since made 36 appearances in all competitions this season and has scored eight goals.
Swansea City brought him in back in 2023 and he found the net on nine occasions in 46 matches for the Swans in the last campaign before he was given the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis.
They will have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future in Wales when he returns later this year. In the meantime, his focus will be on helping Eustace’s side stay up.
Prior to joining the Swans, the Rotherham United academy graduate caught the eye at Blackpool and fired 46 goals in 139 matches during his Bloomfield Road days.
Will Derby County stay up in the Championship?
Derby County won four in a row before their defeat to Swansea City and remain deep in a relegation battle.
They are in for a very tough test against a Burnley team who are top of the league above Sheffield United and Leeds United.
The Rams will need to be at their best to get a result and having Yates back is a boost.
