We’ve compiled a list of every player Liverpool has their eye on since they know that acquiring a top-tier center-back is a high priority for them during the next transfer window.
They want to sign a long-term replacement for Joel Matip, who is 32 years old, past his prime, and has had a difficult season due to injuries.
Although 21-year-old Jarrell Quansah has demonstrated his ability to play in the Premier League,
Liverpool is still eager to add additional opponents to the mix.
We’ve included every single fascinating defensive target the Reds have been linked to in this feature.
They have a long list of defensive targets on their radar.
Piero Hincapie
When Hincapie was on international duty with Ecuador, Liverpool reportedly dispatched scouts to observe him. Hincapie is one of the
stars of Xabi Alonso’s high-flying Bayer Leverkusen team.
In his third season at the BayArena, the 22-year-old has excelled as a left-sided center back for Leverkusen. He recently helped his
team defeat Bayern Munich 3-0 by making four tackles, two interceptions, and five clearances
to keep Harry Kane and company at bay.
Hincapie might need to make a small adjustment if Liverpool’s next manager chooses to stick with Klopp’s preferred four-at-the-back
formation, but his versatility as a left- or center-back would make him an especially valuable addition, improving the team’s defense and covering Andrew Robertson.
Hincapie’s price tag, however, is thought to represent his quality, adaptability, and future potential.
Leverkusen values the defender at approximately £50 million.
Goncalo Inacio
After being connected to Liverpool in the previous season, Inacio has established himself as one of the most talented defenders in
Europe this year with his impressive displays for Sporting CP.
Liverpool would probably need to match the Reds’ £26 million offer to sign the 22-year-old center defender this summer because his
contract has a £52 million release clause. The Portugal international’s contract was apparently the
target of a bid of that amount last month.
Inacio has already made over 100 league appearances for Sporting despite his young age. Having all the qualities needed for a
contemporary center-back, he is an imposing physical presence who can confidently move out with the ball at his feet and launch assaults from deep.
With six goals this season from his club and international obligations, Inacio has also recently improved his game.
Jean-Clair Todibo
If Liverpool decides to pursue Nice center-back Jean-Clair Todibo, they will have competition from their Premier League rivals,
including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
Still, it’s understandable why Todibo is so sought after. Since making his breakthrough at Toulouse as a youth, the international player
for France has all the physical and technical attributes necessary to succeed in his role.
His development was considerably hampered by an early transfer to Barcelona, but at 24, he has established himself as one of the greatest and most complete defenders in Ligue 1.
