‘I can tell you’ – Fabrizio Romano details Aston Villa’s Marcus Rashford plan as Man Utd agreement sealed
Aston Villa have set out a plan as they assess whether to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United at the end of the season.
The Villans stole the headlines at the close of the recent winter transfer window by completing a remarkable Deadline Day double swoop to sign Rashford and Marco Asensio, both on six-month loan deals. Supporters have already taken very well to the pair, with Asensio scoring seven times in his first eight games and Rashford assisting four of those goals.
Unai Emery would like to sign Asensio permanently but discussions will need to be had with Paris Saint-Germain as there’s no agreement in place just yet. That’s not the case for Rashford, however, as Villa secured an option to buy him for £40 million in the summer.
It’s still not a straightforward deal to complete, though, as Rashford is currently on around £325,000 per week at Man Utd and Villa are paying around 80 per cent of that (£260,000). Even that was a stretch, so the 61-time England international would need to reduce his demands.
Fabrizio Romano explains Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa latest
Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano was one of the first to break Rashford’s loan switch to Villa Park and he remains in the know about the potential permanent deal.
Villa supporters have been eagerly awaiting an update – asking Romano directly via social media – and the world-renowned reporter has now provided just that. Romano posted a YouTube video on Wednesday (March 26) to round up a host of transfer stories from this week and dedicated a section to Rashford’s situation.
“My understanding is that Aston Villa are very happy with Marcus Rashford. When I say Aston Villa, it’s Monchi the director and the manager Unai Emery, who loves this kind of challenge,” Romano said.
“You know, when the player is good but needs extra motivation, he (Emery) loves that kind of job. He did it with Marco Asensio, and now also with Marcus Rashford.
“Aston Villa are not deciding anything now, in the end of March and beginning of April they are not planning to activate anything for Marcus Rashford. At the end of the season, when they understand about Champions League and European football, they will assess the financial situation.”

“Financial Fair Play is a crucial topic for Aston Villa, we knew that one year ago,” Romano added. “But, at the moment, what I can tell you to answer your questions is that Villa are very happy with the player from a technical point of view.
“They are also very happy with the player’s attitude in these months. Now they have to decide and see whether they are able to pay the £40 million. This is something that will be discussed, for sure.”
