Unai Emery sent Jack Grealish Aston Villa return message as Marcus Rashford point made

Jack Grealish’s future at Manchester City remains up in the air, falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola despite the manager once seeing him as a £100million asset and it may soon be time for him to move on, while there are a few fans in the Birmingham Live comments section who would welcome a return to Villa Park.

Grealish was sold in 2021, a season after being handed his new five-year contract with the club. Under Grealish’s captaincy, the club were promoted from the Championship, survived relegation fears, and put them on the road that would lead to the Champions League exposure we see today.

He would endure a difficult first season at Manchester City under Guardiola, by his own admission, but flared to life for the following term, winning praise from all corners for winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. Since then, he has received fewer and fewer opportunities to stand out in a team packed with expensive talents and in particular in attacking quarters.

A departure is now on the cards as City seek to shore themselves up after an alarming mid-season period. Grealish’s millions certainly helped Villa on to the road they are on today, but would B6 take him back?

Some supporters would, with conditions attached. Reader Samsar11 says: “I would welcome Jack back, especially if [Marcus] Rashford doesn’t sign after his loan. I think he would be great on the wing, I still find him exciting when he makes a run, taking on players around the box.

“He has done and achieved what he wanted, you can’t hold that against anybody. We would all do the same if we had that chance.”

Commenter Crazycat1 agrees: “If we don’t keep Rashford, Jack would be an other option, as he runs at defenders and can cross the ball well.” Mchadley writes: “If Rashford doesn’t sign for us – which I don’t think he will – Grealish would be a no-brainer as he is so much better than Ramsey.”

Others have their reservations, however. Smashed says: “Jack has always been a little bit of a wild card and he was allowed to run riot at Villa because of the club’s reliance upon him. Things at Villa have changed and if Jack were to come back to Villa he would no longer be that stand-out superstar that he once was, and he would be expected to fall in line with the others.

“Villa have a much better squad than we did back when Jack was here, improvements all over the pitch have been made and it’s difficult to see how Jack would fit in. Villa have quality and quantity in and around Jack’s playing area, and you would have to now question what exactly would Grealish bring to the squad that we haven’t already got.”

TheMinstral writes: “There is a lot of animosity among some fans regarding a return for Grealish and I must admit I don’t disagree. I can’t see him reproducing the skill he had when he left for greener grass, not forgetting of course his wage demands. There are better choices out there somewhere, I suggest Villa look at them first.”

Morrison123 says: “I think Emery will have other plans… City will want to claw back what they can of that £100m, I think the final instalment of £33m was paid in 2023. He will probably go to a Tottenham for a few years.”

W00za1075 writes: “I would say a big fat no. The system Emery has got the squad playing would not be suited to Jack’s slow, pick-out passing game. Villa are slick and fast at intricate passing which at times is beautiful to watch, Super Jack would slow them down, so again a big fat no from me.”
