Hamza Igamane is praised by Philippe Clement, while the Morocco chief praises Rangers’ “very good” choice.
Rangers’ CEO Patrick Stewart believes the club’s intriguing young talent will develop further this year.
While Nils Koppen, the club’s recruitment head turned technical director, deserves most of the
credit for some of last summer’s bargain purchases, Philippe Clement’s management of Hamza
Igamane in particular may prove to be the Belgian’s most lasting legacy at Ibrox.
Despite rising expectations as a result of several exciting cameo performances,
Clement was determined to keep the Igamane hype train under control.
The £1.7 million signing from AS Far Rabat only appeared in two games before the beginning of November,
making him a young player unfamiliar with European football.
By the time Rangers finally released the most out-of-left-field of Koppen’s summer recruits,
Igamane’s burst onto the stage provided immediate justification for Clement’s calm and steady approach.
Say what you will about Philippe Clement, but there is one thing the former Rangers manager
got exactly right during his final few months at the club.
The 2024/25 season is not without some promising signs, even if Rangers appear to be on track to
finish trophyless and ten or more points behind the Premiership leaders.
