Fury over ‘fairness and integrity’ as decision made ahead of PSG versus Aston Villa

Fury over ‘fairness and integrity’ as decision made ahead of PSG versus Aston Villa

Aston Villa take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarterfinals in April.

The first leg is scheduled to take place at Parc des Princes on April 9th before Aston Villa host the return leg on April 15th. In between the two European matches, PSG face FC Nantes in the league.

PSG have asked the Ligue de Football Professionnel [LFP] to postpone their clash against Nantes. Ouest-France explain LFP accepted to do so on Monday, giving the French club more time to prepare to face Aston Villa.

The newspaper states the league fixture between PSG and Nantes has been postponed until April 22nd.

Nantes are 13th in the table [18 teams in Ligue 1], six points above the relegation zone. Due to LFP’s decision to postpone their clash against PSG, they face Stade Rennes, PSG and Toulouse between April 19th and 27th.

Ouest-France state Nantes were opposed to postponing their clash against PSG.

Nantes claim the LFP are “undermining the fairness and integrity” of Ligue 1 by changing the schedule just to give PSG an advantage for the two-legged tie against Aston Villa. They state moving the weekend fixture to midweek will also impact them financially.

Nantes are furious that LFP are giving PSG more time to prepare to face Aston Villa in the Champions League, and throwing their own plans into trouble in the process.
