‘I hate that’ – Ferguson unleashes on Cantwell over ‘Garbage’ recent Rangers remark

Todd Cantwell may no longer be around at Rangers but he is still causing a bit of a stir among the fanbase.

The English midfielder ended his 19-month spell at Ibrox by joining Blackburn Rovers in the summer transfer window.

Cantwell still regularly comments on the Gers via social media, most recently reacting to Rangers’ Old Firm win over Celtic on Sunday (16 March).

However, a recent comment made by the 27-year-old has now landed him in hot water with former Rangers player Derek Ferguson.

Cantwell speaks out on Philippe Clement sack at Rangers

Cantwell did not see eye to eye with former boss Clement, who was sacked by Rangers a little under a month ago.

Despite now being at Blackburn, Cantwell was quick to react to Clement’s sacking as he posted a thinly-veiled dig at the Belgian on social media.

Cantwell posted an image of a song called “Taliban” on Instagram, along with the caption: “Sun’s out… so is our tune.”

The midfielder also tagged James Tavernier in the message, which was considered an unnecessary pop at Clement in the wake of him losing his job.

Asked about that message from Cantwell, Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News: “That’s poor stuff. That really annoys me. A player going on social media and posting stuff like that. Say it to [Clement’s] face.

“The one thing for me, Clement gave his all but wasn’t good enough. We don’t like seeing people lose their jobs, but he wasn’t cutting it.

“Then Cantwell has a cheap shot at him. It’s garbage, absolute crap. I hate it when you see people taking cheap shots at others.

“Clement gave his best. The Rangers fans will appreciate he gave it his all. I hate that from Cantwell. He needs to concentrate on performing for his new club and keeping his mouth shut.”

Cantwell failing to fire at Blackburn Rovers

Cantwell is now seven months into his time at Blackburn and has has only five goal involvements to his name from 30 Championship appearances.

He has started 21 of those, with the other nine coming off the substitutes’ bench, including just a nine-minute cameo in the home loss to strugglers Cardiff City last time out.

As Ferguson says, it is for the best that Cantwell focuses on his form at Blackburn, rather than events at Rangers.
