Marcus Rashford set for stunning England recall with Jack Grealish missing out
Marcus Rashford has reportedly earned a recall to the England squad under new Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel.
The Manchester United academy product made an unexpected loan switch to Aston Villa in the January transfer window amid rumoured interest from Barcelona and Juventus. The move followed Rashford’s struggles under United boss Ruben Amorim, with the forward not featuring for the Reds since the 2-1 victory over Viktoria Plzen on December 12 last year.
However, the 27-year-old has found his stride again at Villa Park, with three assists in nine appearances for Unai Emery’s side. His influential performances have helped propel Villa into the Champions League quarter-finals, where they are set to face Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain next month.
And according to The Athletic, Rashford is now poised for a comeback to the England fold under former Chelsea boss Tuchel. It is reported that the winger, who has not received a call-up in a year, will now be included in the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley Stadium on March 21 and 24, respectively.
Amorim has previously said that Rashford had to leave United because he could not get the attacker to buy into his ideas.
“What I say is I couldn’t put Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” he said in February.
“And sometimes you have one player who is really good with one coach and the same player with another coach is different. I just wish the best to Rashford and Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.
“The case was some of the guys don’t adapt the way I see football, the other guys adapt, and we are trying to build the team.
“It’s something that you feel, as a coach and a player. It’s quite normal, it happened with a lot of coaches. The important thing is that I’m here saying it was my decision.”
