The “difficult” dismissal and the next step in light of Rangers manager connections

The “difficult” dismissal and the next step in light of Rangers manager connections

Ormer Russell Martin, a Scotland international who was heavily connected to the Rangers

manager’s position after being fired from Southampton in December, acknowledges that he

would be “open” to opportunities outside of English sport.

Seven months after leading the Saints to promotion to the English Premier League through

the EFL playoffs following a challenging season in which they won just one of their first

16 games in the top division, the 39-year-old head coach was fired from his position at St. Mary’s.

Even though his time at Southampton ended poorly, Martin is still regarded as one of the

best young coaches in Britain, which led to him being linked to the Rangers managerial

position after Philippe Clement left last month. Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson

was given the position temporarily, but the club will choose a permanent replacement in the summer.

Martin, who managed MK Dons and Swansea City in addition to spending a year on loan at Ibrox in 2018,

is currently the second favorite in the bookies’ odds to take over at Ibrox in the summer.
