Breaking News: kansas city Chiefs to Prepare for ‘Rude Awakening’ With L’Jarius Sneed Trade.

In an ideal scenario, the Kansas City Chiefs would maintain both defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. But financially, that’s a hefty order.

On February 27, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler claimed that Kansas City is “prepared” to tag Sneed.

They are willing to “consummate a trade” if no long-term agreement is reached. “Sneed is agreeable to the scenario, giving him a chance to talk with other teams while K.C. remains in play.”

Sneed’s franchise tag would cost the Chiefs $19.8 million. “The Chiefs won’t be paying that,” Arrowhead Pride’s Pete Sweeney wrote.

“It will either be a long-term deal for Sneed in KC that will lower that number, or they will move that number entirely for draft compensation.”

After realizing that Sneed had been tagged, many observers predicted a trade.

“A tag-and-trade would presumably return a premium draft selection, and cornerback is a position they have had a clear knack for drafting,

” Sweeney said in a statement. “Still, the door seems at least slightly open for Sneed to return at the right price.”

The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov wrote, “The Chiefs last did this in 2019, when they franchise-tagged DE Dee Ford and then traded him to San Francisco for a second-round pick.

” Others cautioned the Chiefs about Sneed’s trade worth. Even though Sneed is an excellent defender, he is unlikely to be selected in the first round.

Arrowhead Addict’s Price Carter wrote, “Some Chiefs fans are in for an unpleasant surprise when it comes to recompense for Sneed.

He’s an excellent player, but the tag/trade scenario never produces the best results. Consider age, injury, and lack of ball production. “This is not another Tyreek haul.”

It is easier for the Chiefs to tag L’Jarius Sneed than Chris Jones.

Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach stated that retaining Jones was their “top” priority.

He is the cornerstone of Chiefs coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, an irreplaceable star. Veach hopes to see the five-time Pro Bowler retire in Kansas City.

According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, a franchise tag for Jones would cost the Chiefs more than $32 million, making it the most costly non-quarterback tag in NFL history.

Even with the higher wage cap, Jones cannot be tagged.

Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest stated, “The math implies that tagging Sneed is the easiest course of action, whether the objective is to keep Sneed or package him in a trade.

According to salary cap tracking services such as Spotrac and Over the Cap, the Chiefs might have up to $28.3 million in available cap space when the new league year begins on March 13.

The Chiefs have until March 5 to make a decision on a franchise tag.
