“Good news” – Daniel Farke confirms significant Leeds United injury boost
Leeds United travel down to Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon looking to keep up their pace at the top of the Championship under Daniel Farke.
Daniel Farke’s Leeds side entered March maintaining their unbeaten run at the top of the Championship – now at 17 games – but saw their gap to third place cut down as Sheffield United and Burnley responded with wins.
Up next is a tricky test with a long trip down to Fratton Park to take on John Mousinho’s Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds team news pre-Portsmouth: Patrick Bamford boost
Farke previewed the Portsmouth clash during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, in which he delivered an update on injuries in his squad.
Thankfully, Farke had no negative updates to share with regards to fresh concerns in his squad prior to Sunday, but did share a positive update on Patrick Bamford.
The Leeds striker has been missing with ongoing hamstring trouble since New Year’s Day, but he is now back in team training and working towards being available:
“Good news, more or less everyone who was available for the last game is available again,” Farke said per the YEP. “Good news, all were able to recover, Good news with Patrick Bamford he was part integrated into team training this week, it will be a while until he is a topic for games but he was able to handle the load.”
Portsmouth v Leeds predictions?
As for Ethan Ampadu and Max Wöber, their rehabilitation from respective knee injuries is said to be going well:
“Also the rehab of Ampadu and Wober is going well, we are hoping the other side of the March international break. With Max it is pretty clear it will work out, for Ethan there is still a chance he may need surgery but it is looking good at the moment, making good progress.”
Ampadu and Wöber could both be back in the squad after the March international break, Farke confirmed.
Ideal boost to hopefully have Bamford as an option
Bamford isn’t going to start games for us this season, but to have him as an extra experienced option is obviously beneficial in the promotion race.
Even if he chips in with one or two goals to keep us top of the league, it’s going to be a vital contribution from him.
For now, there’s no pressure on him getting back to fitness with Joel Piroe firing on all cylinders.
