John Eustance opens up on Blackburn reunion as Premier League promise made to Derby supporters

Derby County boss John Eustace has opened up on a reunion with Blackburn Rovers as he welcomes his old side to Pride Park for the first time since leaving.

The Rams currently sit bottom of the Championship table, searching for their first win under the new head coach.

Blackburn’s form has been patchy since John Eustace left, though they still have a shot of making the play-offs this season.

Both will be chasing a few wins and a run of form that can help the sides reach their end-of-season goals, starting with a head-to-head at Pride Park.

With Derby playing host, Eustace is set to be in the spotlight after the bold decision to leave his old club.

Blackburn fans will travel in their numbers to Derby on Saturday as they look for a sense of revenge over losing Eustace to their Championship rivals.

With the head coach being the main man in the spotlight, he was quizzed on the bizarre situation he finds himself in, going up against his old team so soon after being in charge of them.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Eustace said on a reunion with Blackburn: “You’ve got to be professional.

“I had a fantastic time at Blackburn, I left them in a better place than when I went there. They’re a fantastic group of players and staff but now I’ve got a job to work for Derby County and I’m very honoured and proud to do that.

“I’m focused on one thing and that’s doing my best for Derby County and that’s all I focus on.”

It’s a decision that still has many baffled, but the manager has since explained his ultimate ambition with the Rams.

John Eustace’s Premier League message for Derby County fans

While John Eustace has a huge task ahead of him to avoid the fate of relegation with Derby County, he has his aims set for much further in the future.

A place in League One is a real possibility, but the head coach has his aims set for promotion to the Premier League one day.

He added in his press conference: “I think when you get 27,000 at home, 5,000 away fans, working in a fantastic environment, it’s set for the Premier League and I wanna play the part now to make sure Derby get back into the Premier League.

“However long that takes, it’s going to be a process but it’s going to be a really exciting process to be able to do that and I’m very proud to be the head coach here now to get us back to where we should be.”

It displays more of the thought process he had behind making such a big leap, though it may still be tough for others to understand.
