Rangers coach’s remarks regarding Balogun’s fitness prior to the UEL matchup against
Barry Ferguson, the manager of Rangers, has shared information regarding Leon Balogun and John Souttar’s possible availability for their matchup against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the UEFA Europa League.
After missing time since late January, Balogun returned to action during Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Motherwell.
Five league games against Dundee United, Ross County, Hearts, St. Mirren, and Kilmarnock were missed by the Nigerian international.
John Souttar, his defensive partner, hasn’t played since the team’s 3-1 victory over Hearts two weeks ago.
Ferguson said he was optimistic about their involvement in the pivotal last-16 match in Istanbul.
Ferguson reportedly stated, “John Souttar and Leon Balogun both trained again today (on Wednesday),” according to Rangers Review.
“I have to wait and observe how they respond to today’s instruction. I’m hoping that [they’ll be] accessible tomorrow evening, Thursday.
Despite his age of 36, Balogun has been an important member of Rangers, forming a solid defensive partnership with Souttar.
In 20 games across all competitions, he has contributed to attack in addition to defense, scoring once and dishing out one assist.
Rangers are already in Istanbul as they prepare for the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie against Fenerbahce, hoping to secure a positive result before the return leg in Glasgow.
