Philippe Clement feels Mohamed Diomande has the potential to get to the pinnacle of European football, implying that the January signing’s time at Ibrox might pave the way for a move to a team further up the food chain.

Of course, no football fan wants to conceive of their favorite team as a’selling club’.

But that’s just the brutal reality of the current game, where leagues like the Dutch Eredivisie, the Belgian Jupiler League, and the Scottish Premiership are frequently ripped apart by more affluent clubs from higher divisions.

Philippe Clement, a former Genk and Club Brugge player, understands what it’s like to play for Rangers. And the straight-talking head coach admits that if Mohamed  Diomande builds on an exceptional start to life in Glasgow, it might not be too long before Rangers are offered the chance to make a sizeable profit on their £4.5 million investment (Scottish Sun).

Philippe Clement is impressed by Rangers newcomer Diomande.

“Certainly (he can improve more). “Not only in the coming weeks, but in the coming months and years,” Clement adds of the former Nordsjaelland star. “He’s a high-potential talent, and I don’t think Rangers will be his last destination.

“Of course, you’ll need some luck with injuries throughout your career. However, if he avoids it, he will be able to take more significant advances. He possesses talent as well as the necessary mentality to work for the team, which requires concentration and focus.

“Those are the things you are looking for when you go into talks with players.”

Diomande already scored two goals in four league games, including a long-range strike in Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Hearts. All of the qualities that made him so memorable in Denmark – poise, power, and press resistance – have shined through in an impressive opening few weeks in Scotland.

And when asked if Diomande can reach the’very top’, Clement was quick to stress out that he sees no reason why not.
Two goals in four games already.

“You may see what they can do on the field or what they are doing that you believe you can enhance as a manager. But the most crucial factor is about how ambitious people are to improve themselves and how they desire to absorb information and work around that,” Clement adds.

“(Diomande) is somebody with a really high focus on those things.

“It is like a sponge. He will improve as he learns more. And as he gains experience, he will improve.”

Diomande was sometimes chastised at Norsjaelland for his lack of goals. He failed to score in 21 appearances before joining Rangers in January. Clement, 22, appears to have added a new string to his bow after already having two.

Oscar Cortes, another January signing, also scored in the Hearts defeat.
