Charlie Mulgrew, a former Scotland international, has no doubts about the 17-year-old’s potential to make the move up at Rangers. Or, for that matter, the defender’s former club Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers experienced Lennon Miller’s abilities firsthand on Sunday. The Under-19 international left McGregor shocked and confused as he swiveled and danced his way through a challenge on the edge of the box, setting up Blair Spittal’s opening goal at Firhill.

Miller himself described a stroke of balletic, almost Zidane-like perfection as a ‘little bit of trickery’.

Rangers and Celtic are pushed to make Lennon Miller move.

“You see the effect he had on the game,” Mulgrew tells Sky Sports, as his former club responded to Miller’s exquisite assist with a couple of late goals. “He plays like a guy. He is incredibly clever.

“You see him asking the keeper to take the goal kick and flick it on, as his father (ex-Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, and Dundee United star Lee Miller) used to do.

What a player. He’s a responsible young man who hails from a nice household. If I were Celtic or Rangers, I would sign him right away and have him in the team.

What a player he is!”

Some have referred to Lennon as Scotland’s Steven Gerrard. A more fair parallel, however, could be Brighton’s ex-Rangers sensation Billy Gilmour, a player born in 2006 who shares his extraordinary elegance and control against considerably more seasoned opponents.

While Mulgrew is confident in Miller’s ability to adjust to life at the Old Firm before he reaches 18, former Celtic manager Neil Lennon believes patience is a virtue.

A diamond

Lennon believes Miller, who is still relatively fresh to professional football, would benefit more from a career path similar to that of Lewis Ferguson, who has bloomed into one of Serie A’s finest midfielders after leaving Aberdeen after several years with the first team.

“I think it will be good for him to get that development there (at Motherwell,” he says. “He’s in a nice situation, a fantastic environment.
