Early in the fourth quarter, Aidan O’Connell found fellow rookie Michael Mayer for a seven-yard touchdown throw, which propelled the Las Vegas Raiders to a 16-12 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday night.
Josh Jacobs ran for 116 yards as well for the home team, but in the fourth quarter, his costly turnover set up New York’s penultimate drive.
But with 1:14 left in the game, linebacker Robert Spillane intercepted Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.
For the Raiders (now 5-5), O’Connell completed 16 of 27 passes for 153 yards, and Davante Adams had six catches for 86 yards.

Before the Raiders found the end zone with 14:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, Zuerlein and Daniel Carlson of Las Vegas shared the first six field goals of the game during the first three quarters.
Before throwing the ball to Mayer, who outjumped Jets safety Jordan Whitehead for his first NFL touchdown reception, O’Connell rolled to his right.
In less than two minutes, Zuerlein responded with a 45-yard field goal to cut Las Vegas’ advantage to 16–12. Next, safety Ashtyn Davis recovered from a blunder made by Jacobs, opening the door for a possible New York countermove.
Jets quarterback Wilson completed eight throws
Jets quarterback Wilson completed eight throws for 56 yards to get to the Raiders’ 20-yard line, but Spillane cut him off before he could get a shot at Allen Lazard.
With 13 seconds remaining, the Raiders punted, and Wilson found tight end Tyler Conklin to get them to the 44-yard line in Las Vegas.
However, the 24-year-old’s final two attempts were incomplete.
Zuerlein nailed a 47-yard field goal to give the Jets their first point of the season.
Carlson responded for the Raiders with a 41-yard field goal on their next attempt.
With 1:11 remaining in the first quarter and another 30-yarder at 11:48 in the second, Zuerlein put the Jets back ahead for the season.
