Rangers have been urged to ramp up their reported interest in 17-year-old Motherwell prospect Lennon Miller before it is too late.
In November, the Ibrox club was one of several clubs associated with Lennon Miller, including Old Firm rivals Celtic and a number of Premier League teams.
Charlie Mulgrew has urged both sides of the Old Firm to get in now before it’s too late, following Miller’s outstanding first-half Motherwell display against Celtic.
Charlie Mulgrew pushes the Rangers to sign Lennon Miller.
Following the game, Charlie Mulgrew informed the Sky Sports panel that either Rangers or Celtic would be better off signing Lennon Miller sooner rather than later.
The ex-Celtic defender waxed poetic about the youngster, and it’s evident the 37-year-old has high expectations for the Motherwell teenager in the coming years.
“You see the effect he has on the game today,” Mulgrew said during Sky Sports’ live coverage of Motherwell v Celtic. “He plays like a guy.
“He is incredibly intelligent. We witness him asking the goalie to take the goal kick and flick it on, much like his father (Lee Miller) did. What a player. Boy with a clear mind. Comes from a nice family, too.
“If I were Celtic or Rangers, I would sign him right away and have him in the team. What a player he is!”
Motherwell youth may torment the Old Firm.
Despite his young age, Lennon Miller set up Blair Spittal for the opening goal in Motherwell’s eventual 3-1 Scottish Premiership defeat to Celtic, which Rangers fans have taken note of.
The midfielder made a brilliant turn in the Celtic box before dribbling towards goal and launching a spectacular strike.
The young midfielder is definitely one for the future, and if either side of the Old Firm comes calling, the child will be in a bit of a pickle.
Lennon Miller is now playing for Motherwell, but standing out for Rangers or Celtic is another story.
At a time when UEFA homegrown criteria must be met – Miller is young enough to be deemed homegrown at his club – a failure to reach an agreement might come back to harm either party.
Especially if Motherwell’s Lennon Miller chooses Rangers or Celtic over the Premier League and goes on to be successful in Scotland.
This season, the youthful midfielder has appeared in 21 Scottish Premiership games and scored one.
