The Kansas City Chiefs are among the most popular teams in the NFL. Of course, that is what winning three Super Bowls in five years will accomplish. Everyone loves a winner.
However, the Chiefs’ popularity grew this season for a very different reason. When tight end Travis Kelce and pop sensation Taylor Swift revealed their romance, millions of new fans tuned in on Sundays.
Many people were dissatisfied with Swift’s prominence in NFL games featuring the Chiefs. Interestingly, she was never on screen for more than a few seconds in any game she attended.
Yet, despite the unreasonable anger from some fans, the “Taylor Swift Effect” is undeniable. This year’s AFC Championship game, between the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, had 55 million viewers, a record for that particular title game. Super Bowl LVIII had 210 million viewers, also a record.
The relationship, of course, increased Kelce’s fame. According to NFLshop.com, Kelce has the ninth most-sold jersey of any NFL player this season.
Experts Are Concerned Travis Kelce May Be the Reason the Relationship with Taylor Swift Ends
While Kelce has just returned from visiting Swift in Australia, where she is on tour, others are anxious that his recent behavior will drive the popstar to end her relationship with him. According to Kristyn Burtt from SheKnows:
“Other marketing professionals urge Kelce to be cautious what she wishes for, since the bright hot limelight can be scorching. He’s received some criticism for his mid-game argument with head coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl, and his post-game partying has also raised a few eyebrows. But there’s one thing Ryan Schinman, CEO OF Mayflower Entertainment, told The Wrap that he is keeping his eyes on: a Swift-Kelce breakup.
“While he does not represent the athlete, Schinman is concerned about where their relationship may go. “God forbid they break up,” Schinman stated. ‘How they break up might be disastrous for his branding career. Because she is the world’s most popular superstar and has the most devoted supporters, when she is offended, the entire world feels wronged. He believes Kelce’s crew should be ready for that day today, just in case it ever comes.
According to the story, Kelce’s ranting at coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl, getting drunk at the parade, and celebrating with police after the shooting are all actions that Swift may not want to be connected with.
Swift’s followers may be concerned about the following habits,though, may not reflect those of the popstar herself. After all, she slammed a beer during the Super Bowl pregame because she was on camera. She was also seen vaping when the pair were out celebrating after the game.
The only information made public about their relationship has come from either of them. Unless Swift or Kelce expressed these issues directly, anyone assuming they would lead to a breakup is guessing.
