Former football coach for Middle Tennessee joins the Seminoles staff

This is Rick Stockstill’s homecoming.

The Florida State football team has welcomed the former Middle Tennessee head coach as director of offensive scouting,

the school said on Monday.

For the past eighteen seasons, Stockstill has led Middle Tennessee’s football team.

After the Blue Raiders’ 2023 4-8 record, he was let go.

Michael Norvell, the head coach of the Seminoles, expressed his excitement at adding Rick Stockstill to his coaching team. “He brings a tremendous amount of football knowledge and experience to this position and will serve a vital role in our preparation as a staff.”

Under Stockstill, the Blue Raiders won 113–111 and participated in ten bowl games.

Additionally, he guided Middle Tennessee to its first-ever victory over a nationally rated foe making history in 2022 when they defeat No. 25 Miami 45–31.

Under the late Bobby Bowden, Stockstill played quarterback for Florida State,

where he helped the Seminoles to a 10-2 record and the No. 5 final ranking in 1980. In 1982, he received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Florida State University.

“Rick’s perspective as a former player here under coach Bowden,

as well as a head coach for nearly two decades, will be valuable as he helps us continue our program’s climb,” Norvell stated.

Stockstill expressed his gratitude and humility at being back at FSU.

I’m thrilled to be returning to Florida State University, a place that holds great personal and professional significance for me.

My time there was essential to my growth as a person and a professional.

Being a member of a successful team and adding to the cycle of influencing others excites me.
