Calvin Bassey, a former Rangers defender, scores for Fulham as they triumph over Manchester United at Old Trafford in a historic comeback.

Calvin Bassey, a 24-year-old defender, scored the game’s first goal off a second-half corner after

reacting fastest in the box. It was his first goal for the team.

For the £19 million star Nigerian international, it was a goal to remember and his first since he scored

for Ajax against FC Volendam the previous season.

Calvin Bassey, who isn’t exactly known for his goal-scoring prowess, only ever scored one goal for Rangers, and it came in a 4-0

League Cup victory against Falkirk in 2020.

Calvin Bassey nets first Fulham goal

The goal by Calvin Bassey turned out to be very important as Fulham defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford in a historic victory.

With 89 minutes remaining, Harry Maguire finished like a poacher in the Fulham six-yard box,

giving the Red Devils hope that they had salvaged a point.

However, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey’s partner for the Nigeria national team, stole the three points deep into injury time when he gave

the goalkeeper the look and finished coolly into the near corner.

With Manchester United in sixth place and Fulham now eight points behind Aston Villa in fourth place and a Champions League spot,

the outcome moves Fulham up to 12th in the Premier League standings.

Ex-Rangers star finding Premier League feet

Calvin Bassey’s goal would have been applauded by Rangers supporters worldwide as if it had been their own.

The former youth product of Leicester City is still a tremendously popular figure at Ibrox,

having broken the club record for transfers ($20 million) when he joined Ajax in 2022.

The defender, who began his career at left-back, moved to the Premier League in the summer

after things didn’t work out in the Netherlands.

The defender, who has played in 17 matches in the English top division this season, recently returned from the AFCON,

where he lost as a finalist with Nigeria.
