Celtic want to surpass the £9 million transfer record this summer amid fan protests.

Despite the club’s revenues, Celtic have only spent £21 million on new players this season, having receiving about £25 million from Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad for Jota last summer.

Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell spoke about the club’s transfer activities during their annual general meeting this week.

Lawwell stated that the club’s board “shares the frustrations of supporters” with the “less-than-anticipated activity in the recent transfer window”.

Celtic’s lack of transfer ambition looks to have had an impact on outcomes, as archrivals Rangers surpassed them in the league table to take first place.
