Breaking News:Rangers,Barry Ferguson shares ‘electric’ Europa League assessment after ‘tasty’ Benfica draw

Rangers players and Philippe Clement will be looking forward to their “tasty” Europa League round-of-16 match against Benfica, according to Barry Ferguson.

The Light Blues will face the Portuguese giants over two legs in March, with the first leg taking place at The Estadio da Luz, before the Gers welcome Benfica to Ibrox in an attempt to advance to the quarterfinals.

While Ferguson concedes that Benfica is a “high quality” team, he believes Clement’s side will be enthused by the match since they need to beat some of Europe’s finest teams to advance in this competition.

Barry Ferguson shares ‘electric’ Europa League assessment after ‘tasty’ Benfica draw

On The Go Radio Football Show (23 February, 5:35), he stated: “It’s a nice draw, no sure. They now lead the Portuguese league, which includes Porto, Sporting Lisbon, and Braga, all of which are very good teams.

“That tells you that Benfica is a high-quality team, but when you go to the later stages of the Europa League, you expect to face some of the best teams, and Rangers has that.

“Listen, it’s a draw that every footballer looks forward to. It’s a fantastic stadium, the atmosphere will be amazing, and I’m sure they’re looking forward to it.”

Can Rangers defeat Benfica in the Europa League?

As Ferguson stated, in order to advance in the Europa League, Rangers would need to defeat some of Europe’s greatest clubs,

and while Benfica aren’t on the same level as Liverpool, they will be a difficult test for the Gers.

However, the Light Blues have demonstrated that they are capable of competing with such clubs.

Although Celtic have dominated domestically, Rangers shocked Real Betis in the Europa League group stages.

If Clement’s side plays at that level against Benfica, they will have a good chance of making the round of 16,

provided they show up on the night.

Hopefully, Rangers will enjoy their “tasty” draw and flourish in the exciting environment, allowing them to keep their quadruple dream alive and battling on all fronts.

In other Rangers news, Clement has offered an update on Todd Cantwell and Kemar Roofe’s fitness ahead of the game against Hearts.
