Senior Celtic man tipped to join his formal club after falling out of favour under Brendan Rodgers
According to MEN Sport, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking to rebuild the team,
which will result in the loss of eleven first-team players, including McTominay.
Celtic have been connected with McTominay on several occasions over the years.
The first occurred during Rodgers’ first season and was repeated while Neil Lennon was at the club.
However, he was highly linked as a marquee signing for Brendan Rodgers this summer.
McTominay is valued at €28 million by Transfermarkt, which may be a little high given that his contract expires next summer.
There is a chance McTominay will be interested, especially given his family’s Celtic heritage.
However, realistically, the Scottish Champions are unlikely to pursue McTominay.
McTominay has 8 goals and 2 assists in 29 games this season, with many of them coming at critical occasions.
Without the midfielder’s involvement, Erik ten Hag could have lost his job.
Hopefully, McTominay can maintain this form in the summer when Steve Clarke’s team travels to Germany for the Euros.
We have invested £23.9 million in player investment since the transfer window opened in June 2023 and through the winter transfer window,
which finished on February 1, 2024. Within this, we renewed and extended the contracts of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada, Matt O’Riley, Anthony Ralston, and Reo Hatate.
“The Board’s aim is to strengthen and improve the playing squad in each transfer window,
and while resources were available, we were unable to add to the squad due to the lack of specified targets.
This was disappointing for all of us, and it was never the aim.
The January transfer window is famously difficult because clubs are extremely hesitant to let their finest players go at such a crucial time of the season.
