Bfw Question of the Day — March 2nd: How would you replace Joshua Kimmich at Bayern Munich?
The bombshell that Bayern Munich had withdrawn their contract offer for Joshua Kimmich raised a lot of questions about the Germany captain’s fit in the squad, his positive attributes compared to his negative ones and how much Bayern really need him. Still, Kimmich had played every single available minute prior to the Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt and anyone who believes an ever present player such as this will be easy to replace is simply deluding themselves.
With that said, here are some options that may be able to take the mantle from Kimmich:
The Obvious Solution: Angelo Stiller.
VfB Stuttgart player Angelo Stiller comes from Bayern’s academy, he has a similarly dominant playstyle to Kimmich, looks set to become a vital cog in Germany’s future midfield, scored a goal in the recent match against the Bavarians and clearly retains affection for the club. Besides, if Bayern were to double his wages on a 5-year-deal and activate his rumored €40 million release clause, the total package will not be far off the one offered to Kimmich, who is six years Stiller’s senior. This one just makes a lot of sense.
The Young Potential World Beater: Ayyoub Bouaddi
Ayyoub Bouaddi is a 17-year-old who has burst onto the scene recently for Lille OSC and has immediately impressed. The teenager is tall, with a frame that allows him to push opposing players aside but has the technique to step past multiple players with the ball and pass the ball out of midfield really well. The benefit to signing Bouaddi is that he offers a much more physical profile better suited to eating up ground than either Aleksandar Pavlović or Tom Bischof. Nor is he all potential, as the Moroccan youngster starred in a stunning victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League and a hard fought draw against Juventus. Bouaddi is already really good, but he could become a star in Munich.
The Superstar Solution: Aurélien Tchouaméni
Aurélien Tchouamèni, as a Real Madrid player, is of course very well known throughout the world. But he has not made the step the Champions League winners perhaps hoped he would yet, not managing to solidify a place in the starting lineup. In turn, Tchouaméni might be left disgruntled after being played out of position at CB throughout the whole season and might jump at the chance to return to his favored position in midfield, even at another club. In truth, this reasoning included a lot of maybe’s and if’s, which all potential superstar transfers do. There does not seem to be a massive chance of this happening… but it is possible to imagine there could be a chance. Which is something…right?
The Academy Solution: Javier Fernández
Well, I’m the Bayern academy guy here at BFW. I had to mention someone. Javier Fernández is extremely talented, physical, technical and is one of the most likely Bayern II players to make the jump to the first team. The problems? One, he has struggled to remain fit all season and two, his contract is up at the end of the season. He could make it but will it happen? Especially in time for next season? It does not seem likely at the moment.
Of course, there are just four options in a vast footballing world. So…tell us BFW Community, who would be your choice to replace Joshua Kimmich if he decides to leave the club? Any of these options or somebody completely different?
