A Celtics player who has reached a career milestone sends supporters a passionate 22-word letter.
During the team’s 5-1 victory over Aberdeen in the middle of the week,
Celtic defender Alistair Johnston achieved a significant milestone.
After celebrating his 100th goal for Celtic in the team’s victory over
Aberdeen in the middle of the week, full-back Alistair Johnston gave an emotional speech to the fans.
The Canadian joined the team from CF Montreal in January 2023 under
then-manager Ange Postecoglou, and Tuesday’s 5-1 thumping of the Dons in the
Scottish Premiership was his 100th appearance for the champions.
The home team won easily thanks to goals from Jota, Callum McGregor,
and Yang Hyun-Jun as well as a brace from Daizen Maeda. Johnston
celebrated his accomplishment by providing an assist in injury time.
Johnston joins colleagues Cameron Carter-Vickers, Greg Taylor,
and James Forrest as current squad members who have played in more
than 100 games since joining the team, just weeks after his
captain McGregor reached his own milestone of 500 Celtic appearances.
With four league goals and seven assists in the Scottish Premiership,
the Canadian international, a reliable player for Brendan Rodgers’ team,
has had his greatest season to date while wearing a green and white hooped shirt.
The Vancouver native was commended by Celtic head coach Rodgers for his
“phenomenal work ethic and attitude” and “honest love for the game”
when they agreed to a new contract in November that would last until the summer of 2029.
