Exclusive: Nottingham Forest set to land extra £43m
Nottingham Forest are on course to land a £43million boost in prize money following their upturn in performances this season, sources have told Football Insider.
Forest have enjoyed a strong campaign so far as they currently sit third in the Premier League table after 26 matches.
They have claimed 14 victories in the league and are also into the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they will host Ipswich Town for a place in the quarter-finals on Monday (3 March).
Nuno Espirito Santo led his side to safety last season after replacing Steve Cooper as manager in December 2023.
The Nottingham club earned around £12.4million in Premier League prize money for their 17th-place finish in 2023-24 as each position is worth approximately £3.1million.
They have a chance to strengthen their Champions League credentials and close the gap on second-place Arsenal when the two sides go head-to-head at the City Ground on Wednesday (26 February).
Sources have told Football Insider Forest’s current league position would bank them £55.8million, which is around £43.4million more than they generated last season.
Nottingham Forest could be set for ownership change after exit confirmed
There have been various behind-the-scenes changes at the City Ground in recent months as owner Evangelos Marinakis looks to continue the club’s progress.
Sokratis Kominakis quit his role as a Forest director earlier this month despite owning a 20 per cent stake in the East Midlands side.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider a Forest ownership change could have been agreed between the two Greek businessmen in a bid to comply with Uefa competition regulations next season.
The Premier League side and Marinakis-owned outfit Olympiacos could both be competing in Europe next season, with the governing body’s rules prohibiting clubs from being controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same competition.
Nottingham Forest could face HMRC probe after payments revealed
Forest could be subject to a HMRC probe after they were among the clubs named for claiming public money in a tax scheme designed to reward innovations in science and tech.
The Times reported on 17 February Chelsea have received £2million in research and development (R&D) tax relief payments by HMRC between 2020 and 2023.
Forest, Brentford, Rangers, Fulham and various other sides have also received payments in recent years.
