The Giants may as well give up on using high choices to cover any of the several other voids on the team if they have their sights set on one of the three quarterbacks ranked in the consensus.

The Eagles, Ravens, and Browns’ well-connected former scout Daniel Jeremiah,

an NFL Network analyst, stated on Thursday that the Giants would need to trade for the Patriots at No.

6 overall in order to advance to No. 3.

Given that the Bears are expected to remain at No. 1 and because deals between division rivals

(Commanders at No. 2) are uncommon, it may be the only option left to the Giants.

It is comparable to the sum that the Jets paid the Colts to move from No. 6 to No. 3 in 2018.

With the weapons they have, Jeremiah stated,

“you can get up to No. 3 with a steep price to pay — a little bit of a premium there.”

“I understand that Daniel Jones has one more year left on his contract before they can terminate it,

but I would imagine that would be a major factor.”

The Giants would be playing with fire by hoping USC’s Caleb Williams, the consensus top prospect,

North Carolina’s Drake Maye, or LSU’s Jayden Daniels fall to No. 6. Only three drafts since 1970 have begun with three consecutive quarterback selections.

One could also overlook Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy as an idle hand.

“After all is said and done, it seems like the three quarterbacks will go No. 1, No. 2, and

No. 3—either because New England will take one or because they or Washington will trade out,” Jeremiah stated.

Speaking with folks in the league, it appears that’s what’s expected. ..

I don’t think it’s impossible, but it would be extremely crazy if quarterbacks were selected with the first five picks.

As far back as October, when they acquired a second-round pick by dealing soon-to-be free agent

Leonard Williams to the Seahawks,

the Giants may have expected banking assets to make such an offer.

The Giants may therefore select three players in the top 50 (Nos. 6, No. 39, and No. 47) or,

if the Patriots are willing trade partners, they could start over at quarterback.

The Giants’ top needs prior to free agency are two offensive lineman,

a cornerback, a receiver, a safety, and a running back.

For the Patriots in the new age, Jeremiah isn’t sure that’s the wisest course of action.

It would be difficult, in Jeremiah’s opinion, to pass on a quarterback.

“Returning to this place is not a given. Future years’ appearance at the position is not guaranteed.

There are three guys there who, in my opinion, merit consideration.

“I didn’t recognize it when I was in that stadium the previous year.

It was simply so incredibly flat.

The team was not only unimpressive, but also uninteresting.

Any one of those top three quarterbacks will infuse your team with so much vitality and excitement.

After giving Jones a four-year, $160 million contract extension last season,

the Giants never imagined themselves in this situation.

However, Jones sustained his second significant neck injury and tore his ACL, terminating the season.

This led to the discussion of other options, such as holding out for a lower-tier prospect in the second round.

Letting Jones and backup Tommy DeVito play through 2024 and

then addressing quarterback in 2025—when Jones’ contract provides

for an out with a $22.2 million dead-cap charge—are two less desirable options.

Now is the time for urgency.

“I think that could spur some action for these teams to take one where they are — or maybe even go up and get one,

” Jeremiah stated. “There doesn’t seem to be as much excitement about next year’s [quarterbacks] at this point in the process.”

Daniels is anticipated by Jeremiah to be the quarterback that is most likely available at No. 3.

The Raiders, Vikings, Giants, and Falcons might all be interested.
