‘It is huge’ – Finance Expert: New pressure on Rangers board after Ibrox development

Dan Plumley has insisted that there is pressure on and off the pitch for both Rangers and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

After an extraordinary run, the Bears have finally clinched first place under Philippe Clement,

with automatic Champions League qualifying on the line.

The football finance specialist agreed that there is “huge” pressure on the Rangers boardroom and players to maintain their momentum and win the title.
Rangers chairman John Bennett
“That pressure at the very top of Scotland is going to be the Rangers and Celtic scenario,

” he told Ibrox News exclusively.

“I believe the financial pressure is increased now that there is an automatic Champions League group stage position,

which has not always been the case.

“As we’ve said many times, when you look at Scottish football and the top two in the Scottish Premiership,

you’re looking at conversations about the next step being the Champions League,

which has implications for budgets and revenue for those clubs moving forward into the next year.

“There will always be pressure because Rangers and Celtic’s financial situation is now heightened.

“That is a substantial financial windfall, so there will undoubtedly be pressure associated with it,

and those clubs will be planning for either scenario, so there will be pressure not only on the pitch but also in the boardroom.

“It is enormous.”Rangers’ John Bennett is facing significant pressure at Ibrox.

Champions League football is crucial for any team, especially those in Scotland, where TV and other revenue streams are limited.

Rangers failed to qualify for the knockout stage last summer and had to restructure their resources as a result,

so finishing first and avoiding that again would be enormous.

In other Rangers news, three players could be released this summer.
