Injury news from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City prepare to take on Middlesbrough in the Championship
Stoke City are waiting to see if Wouter Burger will be passed fit to be involved in back-to-back home matches this week.
Burger needed scans and treatment on a knee injury picked up in the latter stages of a 3-1 win over Swansea on February 15. Mark Robins said that the 24-year-old midfielder was “back on the grass” by the Friday
but he was left out of a trip to Norwich at the weekend.
As other important players begin to return for selection, it would be advantageous if he could play in the midweek match against
Middlesbrough at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday at 7.45 p.m. and in the test match against Watford on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Ben Wilmot returned to the team for the first time since January 22 and Sam Gallagher made his first appearance since January 4 as he came off the bench at Carrow Road.
Ben Pearson made his second start after missing 11 months due to a hamstring injury;
Jordan Thompson (hernia) entered the game; and Million Manhoef,
who had missed two months due to a knee injury, began his comeback with his second cameo.
Bosun Lawal was able to avoid sitting on the first team bench and instead receive vital playing time with the under-21s thanks to the returning players.
He played 70 minutes against Liverpool on Friday and 90 minutes against Nottingham Forest last Monday.
However, in addition to playing under the EFL substitutes rule,
Robins has had to control all the returnees and how much he can push players who have been out for so long.
Only three ‘opportunity’ can be used throughout a game, and nine subs can be designated.
“They have to play their way in,” the manager stated on Saturday.
I had to do a two-step change when we decided to switch Gally on, which is intriguing, so I was unable to do it when Ali (Al-Hamadi) came off. We’re almost at that point.”
Five more players remain on the injury list: Ben Gibson has been dealing with illness and injury since Christmas Ryan Mmaee,
who hasn’t played since August, is recovering from a hamstring injury that ended a loan at Rapid Vienna that had already been derailed by quad issues; and Sol Sidibe is recovering from a back injury.
Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Eric Bocat, both left-backs, are out with calf injuries; Bocat has been aiming for a return by the end of this month.
