Derby County’s remorse about Frank Lampard’s play-off final choice might come back in the midst of Coventry City’s run for the top six.
Frank Lampard guided a youthful and dynamic Derby County team to the Championship
play-off final in 2018–19, one of their best seasons in the past ten years.
The Chelsea and England legend took on his first managerial role after Gary Rowett
left for Stoke City in May 2018, just days after Fulham defeated the Rams in the previous
season’s play-off semi-finals. The current Coventry City manager set about assembling
a team that could contend for a top-six finish once more, using his connections
from his old club to help bring in some amazing talent. Harry Wilson, Fikayo Tomori,
and Mason Mount were all brought in on loan from the Premier League, while Jack Marriott
Under Frank Lampard, Mason Bennett enjoyed his best season.
Early in the 2010s, Mason Bennett rose through the ranks at the club’s training facility,
Moor Farm, and made his Championship debut in 2011 at the age of 15.
However, he had trouble securing a spot in the starting lineup in the years after his debut,
and he was frequently sent out on loan to the lower divisions without establishing himself.
However, Lampard connected with the forward and included him in the starting lineup for the 2018–19 season.
