‘Break’ was rejected by Nottingham Forest to block the January move of Aston Villa.

According to reports, when Real Betis tried to re-sign Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno in January,

Nottingham Forest refused to terminate his loan agreement.

After dropping behind Lucas Digne and summer acquisition Ian Maatsen in the left-back hierarchy,

Moreno has spent this season on loan at Forest from Villa. Prior to December, the 31-year-old was a mainstay in

Forest’s lineup, but Nuno Espirito Santo has since played him sparingly. Neco Williams is preferred at left-back,

and Moreno has only started one Premier League match in the past three months.

Que, a Spanish publication, claims that Forest refused to terminate the loan in order to allow

Betis to sign Moreno in January.

According to Que, “Manu Fajardo, the sporting director of Real Betis, continues to work on improving the

green-and-white squad despite the fact that the winter transfer market has already closed.

“Alex Moreno is wanted by Betis for the upcoming campaign; they attempted to

terminate his loan at Nottingham Forest in January of last year, but the English team refused.

In January 2023, Moreno moved from Betis to Villa for an estimated £13 million.

His contract with the Villans expires in 2026, and he has made 48 appearances thus far.
