Stoke City have been advised to sign West Bromwich Albion midfielder John Swift when his

contract at The Hawthorns expires at the end of the season in order to add some experience to

their squad for next season.

Swift, who has been a regular in the second tier for years, is expected to leave the Baggies in a

few months for a fresh challenge at the age of 30.

He started his professional career with Chelsea before moving permanently to Reading in 2016

after loan spells with Rotherham United, Swindon Town, and Brentford. He is an attacking

midfielder.

Stoke fan pundit identifies John Swift as potential free signing this summer

Swift’s best season with the Baggies thus far came in his first season, when he missed only one

league game and scored six goals and nine assists in 45 games.

His importance diminished slightly in the second part of last season, although he finished 2023/24

with nine goals and one assist in 37 games. The 29-year-old has been less vital to the Albion over the

last year, starting only 14 Championship games this season, with Alex Mowatt and Isaac Price

preferred in midfield.

Stoke City could sign John Swift amid a potential midfield shake-up in the summer

Stoke’s Championship status is far from assured for another season, so manager Mark Robins will

focus on maintaining his club in the second tier for the next few months before shifting his attention

to a crucial summer of incomings and outgoings.

The Potters are now well-stacked in the middle of the park, but as previously stated, this could all

alter ahead of next season. Burger was apparently close to a move to FC Midtjylland at the end of

the January transfer window, and while nothing materialised, he might be on his way in the summer

if he maintains his fine form over the next few months.
