Everton Exclusive: Kevin Thelwell update as deal done

Kevin Thelwell could stay on at Everton even if David Weir takes over as sporting director, sources have told Football Insider. Football Insider revealed on Thursday (20 February) that Everton are in advanced talks to appoint Brighton’s Weir.

Toffees boss David Moyes is pushing hard for the return to Goodison Park of his former captain, but it is believed Thelwell’s knowledge and experience remains highly valued by the club.

Thelwell could be offered new Everton role

Everton could offer the 51-year-old a new role to keep him on Merseyside. He has been with the club since joining from Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls at the end of February 2022. Thelwell’s contract with Everton is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The Farhad Moshiri appointment has worked through a tough time at Goodison, with the club forced to raise funds by selling star players before spending on incomings.

He has previously been academy manager and sporting director for Wolves before leaving for the US in 2020.
