‘Strange’ – Journo moots possible reason behind Clement sack delay at Rangers
Philippe Clement remains under increasing pressure to keep his job at Rangers as a result of the dismal season he has overseen at Ibrox.
Despite Rangers securing all three points against Hearts at Tynecastle last time out, talk surrounding the future of Clement refuses to go away.
Clement has been under heavy scrutiny for months at Rangers, though no decision has been made on his sacking despite the failure at Ibrox.
A shock defeat to Queen’s Park ended any hopes of domestic success, while the gap to Celtic makes any league title next to impossible, with questions to be had about why he is still in a job.
Roger Hannah moots financial struggles at Ibrox
One of the main barriers preventing Rangers from sacking Clement is the potential compensation to terminate his contract at Ibrox.
A figure of around £1.2million was mooted by Peter Martin [PLZ Soccer], leaving Hannah to think that it may be the reason behind their unwillingness to part ways.
Speaking via Superscoreboard (17 February), the Scottish Sun journalist said: “Is it a financial decision? Do Rangers have the financial wherewithal to sack the manager at the minute? Because you then have the expense of going and getting somebody else.
“It’s a strange one, a difficult one to answer.”
If it is a financial decision, it does not bode well for the immediate future of Rangers, who have already been starved of investment in the right areas.
Ultimately, that reported figure to sack Clement would be made back immediately with the right man in charge through cup and/or European success which is something the hierarchy need to consider ahead of the new campaign.
Philippe Clement is walking a tightrope at Rangers
At this stage in the season, it seems unlikely that Clement will be sacked regardless of what happens. Rangers have already been knocked out of both cup competitions while finding themselves 13 points behind Celtic in the league.
Quite frankly, things can’t get much worse for the Light Blues and yet his sacking is still yet to arrive
However, a decision must be made upon the conclusion of the current campaign and those in charge have a very simple one to make.
Clement cannot be afforded an extra day at Rangers once this nightmare of a season is over if they are to make any progress from next season onwards.
