
Middlesbrough reveal Michael Carrick stance as former Leicester boss tipped to become new manager
Middlesbrough have announced their position on Michael Carrick’s future, following links to a
former Leicester City manager.

Carrick’s status at the Championship club is reportedly under threat following a run of five defeats in
six, which has dropped them to 11th in the table.
Former Leicester manager Steve Cooper has been connected with the Boro post, as has former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards.
Cooper is also sought by Blackburn Rovers supporters as he prepares to return to management little
over three months after his sacking at the King Power Stadium.
Michael Carrick to remain as Middlesbrough manager
Although the former Manchester United player is under intense pressure to improve his results,
Teesside Live reports that Carrick will be granted time at the Riverside Stadium.
Despite their recent poor record, Middlesbrough are still four points behind the play-off places and
have a game in hand on their rivals.
Boro owner Steve Gibson is also thought to be a big supporter of Carrick, whom he signed to a three-
year contract at the start of the season, and believes he has what it takes to get the Reds out of current rut and finish in the top six.
Among the club’s ranks is former Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who signed
Steve Cooper prepared to wait for management return
Cooper has been connected with a number of Championship posts since his dismissal in November,
but has yet to secure a new position.
Just weeks after receiving his marching orders, names such as Coventry City and Stoke City were discussed.
Despite the links, Cooper is allegedly content to wait for a new opportunity and make the correct decision, especially as his Leicester appointment came less than six months after being fired by Nottingham Forest.
