Bfw Question of the Day: “How are you feeling about Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany?” – Check details
When Bayern Munich hired Vincent Kompany last summer, it was rumored that the Belgian was the sixth, seventh, or maybe even eighth choice to take the helm.
Naturally, fans had some doubt about how it would all work. After all, Kompany was coming off of leading Burnley into…relegation. It is not as if the coach had a wild track record of success coaching at big clubs, so Max Eberl and the hiring committee were operating off of a calculated gamble.
Early into his tenure, the move for Kompany appeared to be shrewd. His experience as a high-level player earned him immediate respect from the locker room and he seemed to have a general easy way about him that made players comfortable. In addition, his years at Manchester CIty made him very media savvy with a clear idea of how to have a relationship with the media, without actually telling them much at all. Moreover, Bayern Munich has been winning at an elite clip under Kompany, so most fans — even those against the hire — had started to come around.
However, recent weeks have shown some cracks in Kompany as a coach. His tactics have become stale and predictable. His player selections are often uninspired or even questionable. There has become a growing sense that maybe he might not be cut out for the long-term at Bayern Munich.
