Marco Silva hails ‘great’ Nottingham Forest player despite losing to Fulham

Nottingham Forest were uninspired in their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham, with only a

few standout performances from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Forest defeated against Fulham for the second time this season, making Marco Silva’s side the

first Premier League team to defeat Forest twice this season.

Among the dismal performances, Forest fans chastised Danilo for his performance in the middle

of the park for Espirito Santo, who replaced the Brazilian midfielder with Ibrahim Sangare at

halftime.

The encounter was unlike Forest’s 5-0 loss to Bournemouth in that the performance left fans with

a dampening feeling rather than a true inquest, a stance shared by commentators such as Dion

Dublin, who expects business to resume for Forest following the Fulham defeat.

It never appeared that the Forest squad would win the game, but one guy certainly drew Silva’s

attention in the Fulham dugout, as he made sure to highlight him specifically in his post-game

interview.

Unsurprisingly, it was Chris Wood who scored Forest’s equaliser in the first half, latching onto a

ball over the Fulham defence and shooting into the bottom left corner.
Forest never really capitalised on this equaliser, but Silva got the positive outcome he needed to

give Wood a nod when he might not have otherwise.
Silva told BBC Sport: “Football can be unpredictable, but it was apparent today that the greatest

team prevailed. We led 1-0 until the 35th minute, but it should have been 2-0 or 3-0.

“Chris Wood scored with a fantastic finish; he is on fire, but we dominated the game. We exhibited patience and created.

Surprisingly, all three of Wood’s touches in the Fulham box occurred in the course of his brilliant equalising finish.
Wood’s solitary shot of the game demonstrated his clinical ability while also highlighting his unhappiness that his teammates couldn’t get the ball to him more.

This is demonstrated equally well by Wood’s own passes into the final third, with only two completed, indicating that Anthony Elanga and the rest of Forest’s attacking support were unable to get close enough to Wood to produce any attacking combinations.
