Chiefs favored to sign Mike Evans in free agency
Chiefs favored to sign Mike Evans in free agency
On March 13, NFL free agency begins, and the Kansas City Chiefs will try to bolster their squad in preparation for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl win.
The Chiefs could use a clear-cut number one receiver, and if Vegas is correct, they may get one in Mike Evans.
According to Bet Online, Kansas City is the frontrunner to sign Evans, if he does not return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season. The Chiefs are now at +200 to sign Evans. The New York Jets are close following at +300, with the Chicago Bears coming in third at +500.
The Chiefs may have the inside track because, while the possibility of an extension between the Buccaneers and star wide receiver Mike Evans is not completely closed, the prospects of such an agreement aren’t looking good right now. Tampa Bay had a soft deadline earlier this week to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Pro Bowl wide receiver, but both sides are apparently at odds.
Tampa Bay will be saddled with $7.4 million in dead money in 2024 as a result of the failure to reach an agreement earlier this week. The great wideout is expected to split ways with the only franchise he has played for in his NFL career through free agency.
Evans recently completed the 2023 NFL season with 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 17 games, extending his run of at least 1,000 receiving yards to ten seasons, which essentially covers his entire professional career.
He’s exactly the type of receiver that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes might use next season.
