According to a reporter, Chelsea are the best-placed to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap,

despite Manchester United showing interest.

Delap is excelling in his first full season in the Premier League, with nine goals and two assists

in 23 appearances. The 22-year-old is on his way to becoming a quality Premier League centre-

forward, and it won’t be long before he earns his first England call-up.

Ipswich are presently 19th in the table, and Delap will almost probably leave if they are demoted

to the Championship.

Chelsea, according to TEAMtalk contributor Ben Jacobs, are the favourites in the hotly contested competition to sign Delap.

“Of course, Manchester United fans being greedy and not thinking about finances will say, ‘we’ll

just get Victor Gyokeres because Ruben Amorim likes him’, but that’s a £70million outlay.”

“And Delap, I think, is also quite intrigued by the Chelsea project, especially knowing that if he’s

the number nine that comes in, he may stand a very good chance of supplanting or at least

competing with Nicolas Jackson, who, we must stress, Chelsea still has a lot of faith in. So Chelsea

and Delap are one to watch.”

Delap has starred against Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will know what to expect from Delap after the forward shined against

his team in December. Ipswich defeated the west London team 2-0, with Delap scoring a penalty and providing an assist.

Chelsea may be aiming to push harder to recruit a No 9 in January, since Maresca’s alternatives have dwindled of late.
