Heung-min Son summer exit: Heung-min Son is not what Tottenham need right now
Jamie O’Hara has given his assessment of Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-Min Son, and has concluded that he is not what the club needs right now.
Tottenham Hotspur’s cup exits
It has been a difficult few weeks for Tottenham Hotspur, who have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup all in the space of a week.
While defeats are part of football, Spurs have come under intense scrutiny after their poor displays in the games against Liverpool and Aston Villa.
One pundit even went as far as to label this Spurs squad as the “Spursiest team” he has ever seen. As frustration continues to grow, there have also been calls for the manager to be sacked.
Jamie O’Hara calls for Tottenham to change captain from Heung-min Son
While the manager continues to feel the heat, former Spurs player, Jamie O’Hara, has now given his verdict on the leadership within this group of players. He singled out club captain Heung-min Son, stating that the Korean winger, is not the right captain for this team anymore.
He told Grosvenor Sport: “When you look at Tottenham’s two recent games — Liverpool and Aston Villa in the cup—this was the moment to show that they could compete. Unfortunately, they’ve shown the complete opposite. There’s no fight, no heart, no desire, and certainly no leadership.
“For me, that lack of leadership comes from the manager and the captain. I hate to say it, but Son Heung-Min is not the right captain for this team anymore. He’s a fantastic player, an incredible servant to the club, but when it comes to pulling the team together in tough moments, he’s not the one to step up.
“A captain should be someone who can lead from the front, someone who can grab the team by the scruff of the neck and get the team out of a hole. Son isn’t that. It’s time to take the captaincy off him and give it to someone else.”
Heung-min Son’s goal scoring decline at Tottenham this year
Heung-min Son’s season so far this campaign, has been well below the standards he has set in times past. In his 33 appearances this season, the winger has scored ten goals and assisted eight.
Last season, the wide-man managed 17 goals and ten assists in his 36 appearances in domestic competitions for Tottenham Hotspur.
